Cascades Gorge Tour
Enjoy one of the most popular activities at The Homestead as a Naturalist leads you through a series of beautiful waterfalls alongside a deep-Alleghany Mountain trail. Be entertained as our Naturalist highlights the many interesting plants and animals that inhabit this gorge. Approximately two miles in length, moderate hiking ability and endurance are a must. Don't forget your camera!
Few mountain streams are as scenic and productive as our four-mile-long trout stream that flows between the Cascades and Lower Cascades Golf Courses. Accented by a series of beautiful waterfalls, this clear running stream with its wealth of mountain wildflowers and greenery qualifies as a magnificent challenge to the novice and experienced fly fisherman.
Falconry (Seasonal)
Known as the "sport of kings," falconry is one of the oldest of the field sports with a history that
stretches back nearly 4000 years. Learn about this unique form of hunting with trained birds of prey,
including falcons, hawks and owls, at The Homestead's Mews. Beginner and intermediate lessons are available.
At the conclusion of the lesson, the guest is given the opportunity to be photographed with the bird.
Fly-Casting Clinic
Experienced Orvis endorsed guides will provide you with a one-hour clinic of fly casting techniques.

Horseback & Carriage Rides
The Homestead maintains a stable of approximately 50 horses, and offers English and Western style riding.
Enjoy a trail ride through the forest, or try a leisurely carriage ride in an antique buckboard.
Some of the carriages date back to the early 1900's.

Mountain bikes are available for rental in the lower level of the mountain lodge at the ski area.
The hours will be from 10:00 - 4:00 daily. Helmets are required on Homestead property and they are

Swimming
The magnificent Indoor Pool was built in 1904 and is fed by the naturally warm mineral
spring waters upon which The Homestead was founded. It is open year round and located
adjacent to the Spa. The new Outdoor Pool features cabaëas, a snack bar and beverage
service, sunbathing areas, and a special pool just for kids, and is open seasonally.

In season (mid-March to mid-November), the teaching program is under the direction of
Peter Burwash International, whose philosophy is to teach individuals, not systems.
